Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
