19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to force a decider.

The opponent defended four early chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
